Below you will find a series of interview formats that you may face when you are in the chair in front of an employer. Every employer has his/her own way to interview. We would like to prepare you to a successful interview by giving you a sneak peak at what kind of an interview you may face along with the typical questions you may be asked. Please read through them carefully and make sure you understand the different formats.
 

INTERVIEW FORMAT

TYPES OF QUESTIONS

USFUL APPLICATIONS

UNSTRCTURED

Few if any planned questions are made up during the interview.

Useful when trying to help interviewees solve personal problems or understand why they are no right for a job.

STRUCTURED

A predetermined checklist of questions, usually asked of all applicants.

Useful for valid results, especially when dealing with large numbers of applicants.

MIXED

A combination of structured and unstructured questions that resemble what is usually.

Realistic approach that yields comparable answers plus in-depth insights.

BEHAVIORAL

Questions limited to hypothetical situations.

Evaluation is on the solution and the approach of the applicant.

 

Useful to understand applicant's reasoning and analytic abilities under modest stress.

 

STRESS

A series of harsh, rapid-fire questions intended to upset the applicant.

Useful for stressful jobs, such as handling complaints.

  3. What community or school activities have you been involved in?

  4. Describe your ideal job. In what type of work are you interested?

  5. Why do you want to work for our company?

  6. What were your favorite classes? Why?

  7. Why did you select your college major?

  8. What do you know about our company’s products or services?

  9. Describe the ideal boss.

  10. How often do you expect to get promoted?

  11. What is your major weakness? Strength?

  12. Why do you think your friends like you?

  13. Do you plan to take additional college courses?       
    What jobs have you had that you liked most?

  14. What are your career goals?

  15. If you could go back five years, what would you  do the same differently?

  16. Why should our company hire you?

  17. Describe your last job.

  18. How many hours do you think you will have to work at our job?

  19. What job skills do you have?
